Howdy! The Multinational Enterprises (MNE) course has been moved to Mondays only, from 9:00-11:50 am, so that first year MPIA students will be able to take both BUSH 629 and BUSH 605. Our first class will therefore be Monday January 22, 2007, in 1063 Allen Bldg. Please email me at leden@tamu.edu if you are registering for this course. thanks! LE
2006-10-27 Howdy!  will be teaching my graduate seminar on Multinational Enterprises in the Allen Building again, the same as in Spring 2006. The class will run on Mondays and Wednesdays from 9:35-11:10 a.m.

The course is primarily designed for Bush School students in the Masters in International Afffairs (MPIA) and Masters in Public Service and Administration (MPSA) degree programs, but is also open to graduate students from across the campus who have an interest in learning about multinational enterprises. In the past, these students have come from a variety of departments and disciplines including Accounting, Agricultural Economics, Communications, Economics, Educational and Human Resource Development, Finance, Industrial Engineering, Management, Marketing, MBA, PPA (Professional Program in Accounting), and Petroleum Engineering, among others. The course is open to both masters and PhD students. Students enrolled in the Certificate Program in Advanced International Affairs (CAIA) or in Homeland Security are also welcome.

The syllabus for Spring 2007 should be posted in December 2006, but will be closely based on the syllabus in Spring 2006, so if you want to see what the course will be like please look at that syllabus which is also posted on this webpage.

The main changes I expect to make are the following:
  • The class will move from being taught once a week to twice a week so I will have to reorganize the topics into 75-minute classes. I suspect this will allow us to cover more topics, but in less depth. Some of the classes will readily lend themselves to this change as in some of the Spriing 2006 weeks, I was already doing two topics (e.g. corruption and corporate social responsibility, tax and transfer pricing, political risk and terrorism).
  • I will need to change the format of the Weekly Idea Sheets as I will now have twice the number of classes with half the reading material per class (that is, we will go from 14 to 28 classes and from 6-8 readings to 3-4 readings per class). The alternative to the Idea Sheets is a midterm test and/or final exam, and I may move to that format. Or to a combination of a few idea sheets plus a final exam. I have not decided about this.
  • As in Spring 2006, there will not be a required textbook.  However, there are two new books on multinational enterprises coming out in 2007, and I am in discussions with both sets of authors about using some of the chapters of their books in our class, in their pre-release format.  These would be in PDF format, and available through the web portal.
We will be using the Mays Business School webportal again this coming semester.

Early in January 2007, I will be contacting all students who have registered for this class to give them the password to access the web portal. Students will need to log on, fill in some information about themselves (with a head-and-shoulders photo if you have a digital one, otherwise I will take one the first day of class). The syllabus and the course readings will be posted on the portal and accessible for download. You will need to prepare the first week's readings before the first class.

If you have any questions, feel free to email me at leden@tamu.edu. Thanks! Lorraine Eden
